About this Chinese print

We have developed an innovative approach to executive time management that helps leaders who are continually challenged to do more with less. This program enables leaders to achieve high levels of sustainable, long-term performance by providing a self-management framework for:

  • Sustaining intention and focus over time
  • Making hard tradeoffs
  • Eliminating phantom workload - the unnecessary extra work, resulting confusion, worries about quality, and poor performance inadvertently caused by taking on too much, running late, and struggling to keep up
  • Developing a culture of mutual accountability

The program meets a need unfulfilled by traditional time management approaches in that it combines action with self-reflection on how we spend our time and why, and tactics with strategy in four different domains where leaders must focus their attention. It integrates tips for working more effectively in a 24/7 world into a proven change model developed by Marilyn Paul in her book It's Hard to Make a Difference When You Can't Find Your Keys (Penguin Compass, 2004).

In-house Programs

Executive Time Management is a two-day workshop available for in-house customization. Executives learn to:

  1. Increase the time they spend on meeting such key executive responsibilities as: setting direction, strategic planning and goal-setting, leading innovation, designing effective policies and structures, shaping organizational culture, and managing performance.
  2. Decrease time (sometimes more than 50% of their day) they now allocate to such activities as putting out fires, getting caught in email, attending unproductive meetings, doing work others should have done, and resolving the same problem over and over again.
  3. Increase their personal reliability and credibility.
  4. Develop new systems and habits which enable them to be more productive over time.
  5. Improve work/life balance and personal health.

Recent applications include: increasing the ability of a corporate R&D department to make realistic time estimates of its deliverables and meet its commitments to internal customers, enabling a group of high potential leaders to prepare for changes in how they need to manage time when they are promoted, training public sector executives to manage their time more effectively as leaders, and developing the ability of Emergency Medical Directors to better meet their administrative as well as medical responsibilities.

Executive Coaching

We also work individually with executives whose careers are at risk because of their inability to manage time effectively. Managers learn how to increase their reliability and trustworthiness when making commitments, maintain focus in an increasingly chaotic organizational environment, reduce unnecessary workload, and manage difficult tradeoffs. In sum, they learn to perform at a level that is both more productive and sustainable.
